Hot topic is a successful retailer because they make their employees feel like they fit in and hot topic appreciates what they can contribute to the organization. Hot topic is based on passion and there are 2 different stores under the Hot Topic Incorporated name, Hot topic and Torrid. Hot topic’s passion is Music and Torrid’s passion is fashion. Hot topic offers a “concert reimbursement” program. Employees can attend a concert and bring someone with them, fill out an expense report, and be reimbursed for the cost of their tickets. The only requirement for this benefit is to submit a “fashion report”
The organization has been listed on the best small companies and the best companies to work for list many times over its 20 year history. The employees are supported in risk taking decisions when taking care of the needs of customers. Employees are kept satisfied through such perks as cell phone discounts, on-site massages, health fairs, scholarship reimbursement, and “employee of the month” programs. Another interesting and no-cost perk offered to employees is the “9/80” program. This program allows employees to work 80 hours over 9 days giving them a three-day weekend every other day.
I am a shopper of hot topic; I do not get to go the store very often because of the prices. Once I wanted to buy this dress for 100.00…but I did not have the money for it, after looking, it was on sale for 50.00 plus we get a 10% discount cuz my husband is military and I had a frequent shopper discount card. So in the end I ended up paying 38.75 for the dress before taxes. If I go in there and I am not sure how something looks on me I know that I can count on the employee who is working to be honest, and even give me a tip or 2 if they don’t think it looks right. Hot topic is going in the right direction. If they continue their customer discount programs, and fall line sales which are the best ones…In fact my husband and I are going there this weekend just to see how the new fall line out and buy some things and the makeup line is wonderful, then I think the success will continue. If they stop these things then they will not be as popular and people will shop elsewhere.
Hot topic has a passion for music, I have been inside Hot topic and this makes it seem like it is a music store, while yet it sells music I feel that that is actually misleading in a way, Hot topic sells a style of clothes for people of the Grunge style, Gothic, and even Emo clothing style. They do have cds and celebrity t-shirts, styles inspired by such. One of the things I do like about hot topic is the employees dress in a conservative Gothic manner. I am sure they have a dress code but I can walk in and see an employee with lip and eyebrow piercings, tattoos that don’t have to be hidden, and they seem happy.
