I had initially picked up The Omnivore’s Dilemma automatically thinking “This will be a boring book to me. It’s not my style of book” and this thought has not changed. I admit that it is a boring book. However, I did find that part 3, the forest, seemed to be the most interesting. I admit that I am reading the last couple of chapters as I type this review, but I had already read the first chapter.

In the Omnivore’s Dilemma, part 3 at the beginning Michael Pollan speaks about cleaning his own food, how he did it. How he hunted his own food. This book is another look on Vegetarianism and what is really behind the whole food processing.  I chose part 3 because in the old days everyone farmed, hunted, and gathered food themselves. Cleaned and prepared it. The only need for a market was for things to feed your animals and some liquids or selling things so you could buy more seeds.

I enjoy hearing about the farms and the old days and medieval time periods. It seemed like Pollan in his book rather enjoyed gathering the food and that he learned a few things about this side of the world. There are still people today who grow some types of food. Some grow vegetables; some grow herbs such as cilantro and other spices in their gardens. Some even grow fruits. This saves quite a bit of money.

I give Pollan credit; he was willing to shoot the animal. I doubt I would have been as willing to do this, but in the old days that was how you got food. If there were no animals in the woods then you did not eat meat. I doubt I would be as willing to hunt; I would be a vegetarian before I resulted to killing my own meat. Michael Pollan did it for the purpose of this book. I credit him as a good author, willing to take that extra step to do what needed to be done, so he could better explain to the world in his book about the omnivore’s dilemma and the possible national eating disorder this world has.
