Algebra on a Daily Basis

Algebra has many uses and can be applied to many situations. One good example as described in this project is through nutrition–if you’re on a tight budget or you have health concerns; it’s a very good idea to monitor your intake and keep track of all the vitamins and minerals you take in daily. By doing this, you can determine what you’re taking too much of and what you need more of so that you can meet daily intake requirements.

Another situation where this can be applied is sugar regulation, which is necessary for many health problems:

The recommended daily intake of White Sugar (Glucose or Fructose) is about 40 grams for a 2,000 calorie diet. So:

Coffee (A) with skim milk + 1 tsp. of sugar:

20 grams

2 Eggs (B): 2 grams

2 Pancakes(C) without syrup: 12 grams

The equation:

20A + 2B + 12C = 40 grams

It’s very hard to avoid going over the sugar limit, which is why many diets declare it impossible in today’s common foods. However, by going for mainly sugar-free products (such as meats, and natural sugars, such as with fruits and vegetables), one can maintain 40 grams a lot easier.
