I have learned a lot about the different views and beliefs in regards to public breastfeeding.
The process and various steps of writing have given me a better understanding of what women go through when it comes to breastfeeding. This paper has taught me how our choice of words can have a major impact on people’s lives. The way we treat others can have long-term effects on them and change their routines completely. I have learned that even the smallest topics can have a major impact.
The things I have gained from writing this paper have strengthened my stance on the topic. The research has shown major issues caused when breastfeeding isn’t performed. There is a lot of information that I did not know. This new insight has made me better understand the things women go through. It is not easy to go through each day facing this kind of issue, especially when you have a child to support. I never thought I could feel stronger in my stance.
I feel very well prepared for conducting academic research. The things I have learned during the research and planning have taught a lot about validity. The information you get from sources is not always accurate. I feel that I can go to various sources and pick out the information that is correct on the topic. There are a lot of ideas and views that people post today. I am confident in my ability to perform the searches.
I would contribute to the topic with an open mind. This research has shown that even women feel different about the topic. There are so many different views that anyone could get offended. I would do my best to hold the conversation in a way that is none confrontational. There are conversations I have had with my wife and some of her friends that I would contribute to my writing. Some of the ideas that I got were from women telling their personal experiences. If it wasn’t for the first-hand insight from these women, I would not have gotten the paper done as well as I had.
I incorporated a lot of changes based on peer feedback. One fellow student said the paper sounded like someone ranting and attacking people. Based on this feedback, I changed the tone and re-wrote a lot of the paper to sound less aggressive. My professor explained some of the ways an academic paper is supposed to sound. I changed my introduction, along with various parts of the essay to fit the requirements. There was a recommendation to have more facts in the references. I added references from actual medical personnel to give the paper more support.
Reviewing the other student’s papers showed me other ways to look at my own topic. There were a couple of papers that showed multiple points of view on the topic. This made me sit back and think about how others may feel about mine. It helped form the research to explain things to where it showed my point of view. It also showed that I understood how others felt, but this is what I believe. This was an idea I got from a couple of different papers.
The papers that others had written did show me additional strategies on how to get the information out there. The strategy I had originally used was not very strong. After reviewing a few different ways the other students wrote, I saw different ways to get people’s interest. My classmates showed me better ways of writing. They also taught me how to be less offensive. I really appreciate the help that was given.
